PS4 revealed…sort of

February 23, 2013

In a previous post we talked about the abject lunacy of Sony and Microsoft proposing to prevent the use of used games on their next generation hardware.

With the rather lackluster reveal of the PS4 on Wednesday, it was finally confirmed that Sony will not be blocking used games.

In an interview with Eurogamer, world wide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida is reported as stating

Used games can play on PS4, that’s the general expectation by consumers. They purchase physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that’s my expectation.

This then finally puts the rumour to bed, or at least to sleep for now.

As already mentioned the reveal on the twentieth of February was ridiculous. All was seen was a controller, when everyone wanted to feast their eyes on the hardware. Sony no doubt think that by teasing us with a little we will want more. I suggest they be very careful in how they manage the new device as it may create animosity with its fan base.

The overriding question now is , when will Microsoft let lose their new creation , and will they come out and state that used games are fine on their machine.

We are all expecting “The Empire Strikes Back†and hoping beyond hope we don’t get “ The Phantom  Menaceâ€.
