How to Form or Clarify an Opinion

July 08, 2020

Have you ever been in a situation where conversation is flowing, everybody’s calm and then all of a sudden you hit a roadblock?  It’s like something was said that caused the other person to instantly put up a wall and shut down your opinion.  Or perhaps it was you who decided to end the conversation because you simply couldn’t agree with what was being said and there was no point in taking it any further.

All we know is our lived experience.  Our opinions toward everything in life are based on our belief system which is fuelled by our experiences in life, by what has been modelled to us, by what we have seen with our own eyes.  So when someone else challenges that belief system, it has the potential to shake the very core of who we are.

Most people don’t like being shaken to the core.  It’s uncomfortable, it’s confronting and unravelling and therefore it’s one of the most bravest things you could ever do.  To look outside your paradigm, embrace a new thought that contradicts your inherent belief requires a lot of bravery because that process might actually bring you to the realisation that everything you’ve believed about that subject is a lie.

It’s easy to have an opinion.  But in order to have a well rounded and formed opinion, we must explore all the options.  We must take our natural belief system and question if the opposite could be true.  When we are brave enough to challenge our own opinions, we open our minds up to a greater understanding of ourselves and each other.  It will lead you to a place of freedom, of choice and the potential to completely change your trajectory in life.  Are you ready?
