The latest mass shooting in America came yesterday at Covenant Presbyterian, a private Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, where a person who was once a student there killed three kids and three staff members before being shot and killed by police. They say the shooter was 28 year old Audrey Elizabeth Hale, born female but identifying as male. Two nine year olds and an 8 year old were killed, along with a substitute teacher, a custodian, and the headmistress. Flags on federal property will fly at half staff through Friday to honor the victims.
The South Bend council has sent two names to Mayor James Mueller to serve as Police Review Board director. Mueller will choose between South Bend School Board member Stephanie Ball, and YMCA Director of Urban Youth Services, Pastor Charles King. Both graduated from South Bend high schools, and have extensive local ties. Mueller's office says he will interview the candidates soon, and once he decides, the council will start naming people to the board.
The Disney Company is set to begin layoffs this week that will reportedly affect Disney’s media and distribution, parks and resorts, and ESPN. CEO Bob Iger reports it's the first of three rounds of cuts that will total about 7,000 employees. The belt-tightening is part of a broader effort to trim corporate spending and streamline operations. Iger has also said he might consider selling the streaming service Hulu.
The women's Final Four in college basketball is now set, after defending champ South Carolina and Virginia Tech claimed the final two spots Monday night. Friday's semifinals will pit Virginia Tech against LSU, and South Carolina against Iowa. The winners will play for the title Sunday.
Men's Final Four semifinals are Saturday, with the championship game on Monday night.
In Nappannee, NorthWood boys basketball celebrated their first-ever state title Monday, after the Panthers won the title Saturday in Indianapolis.
NBA: Dallas over the Indiana Pacers in Indy, 127=104. Milwaukee downed the Pistons in Detroit, 126-117. The Chicago Bulls play the Clippers in L-A tonight.
