There will soon be a new mayor in Chicago. Incumbent Democrat Lori Lightfoot conceded last night after finishing third in a crowded primary. Brandon Johnson and Paul Vallas advance to a runoff election April 4th. Johnson is supported by the teacher's union, and Vallas was endorsed by the police union. Lightfoot became the first Black woman to be elected mayor of Chicago four years ago.

Two members of Congress are introducing a bill to tighten safety standards for trains carrying hazardous materials. Currently, many safety rules only apply to trains with hazardous substances in 35 cars. This new mandate would lower the threshold to cover any railcar carrying the stuff. It's all in response to the derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.

Kobe Bryant's widow Vanessa has settled her claim with Los Angeles County over his death for nearly 29 million dollars. This is about photos that members of law enforcement shared with each other - and some others - after the 2020 helicopter crash that killed Bryant, their daughter and seven others. Federal safety officials blamed the crash on pilot error.

Coach Niele Ivey and four of her players earned All-ACC honors Tuesday. Ivey is coach of the year in her third season leading Notre Dame women's basketball. Sophomore guards Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron are first team all conference, Maddy Westbeld is second team, and KK Bransford is on the all-freshman team.

Irish men's coach Mike Brey's final home game is tonight at Purcell Pavilion against Pittsburgh. Brey is stepping down after 23 seasons leading the program. Game time is 7pm.

It's the end of an era for hockey in Chicago. Longtime Blackhawks star Patrick Kane was traded Tuesday to the New York Rangers for future draft picks. The 34 year old Kane helped the Blackhawks win three Stanley Cup titles.

On the ice: the Blackhawks lost at Arizona last night, 4-to-1. The Detroit Redwings lost at Ottawa, 6-to-1.

NBA: Toronto beat the Chicago Bulls, 104-98. The Indiana Pacers won at Dallas, 124-122.
