Dave Bubeck on Why You Should Definitely Sign Up for NAPB 2021

August 03, 2021

Dave Bubeck, president of the National Association of Plant Breeders (NAPB) and research director for Corteva Agriscience, sits down to discuss the 2021 virtual meeting of the NAPB and how to sign up. The event takes place Aug. 15-19, 2021. For info visit napb2021.com.

The first plenary meeting on the schedule is the Meeting Kick Off on Monday, August 16th from 9:30-12 pm (Eastern Daylight Time – America/New York). If you can’t make it to the kick-off, don’t worry – that session, all the numbered sessions (1-8), and the awards session will be recorded and archived in the schedule to view later. The archived content will be available on the event platform for two weeks after the conference.

“The disappointment, of course, was not to be able to see people in person. COVID limitations due to the pandemic have existed my entire time as president and the entire course of the year. And so, in 2020, we had our first annual meeting as a virtual meeting. And so we’re conducting our 2021 meeting in the same manner,” he says.

“I received the gavel over a virtual Zoom call, and I’ll pass it on over a virtual Zoom call. I really enjoy the one-on-one interactions and all the networking that we can do through NAPB as a very specific society centered around plant breeding. But we survived it, I would say, and we actually thrived.”

Bubeck says top on the NAPB’s agenda this year is continuing its lobbying work in the U.S. capitol. On the schedule for early September are two sessions of a virtual plant breeding workshop that will be conducted for policymakers in Washington, D.C., for those that don’t have a plant plant breeding background, to not only introduce them to the topic of plant breeding, but explain the pathway of commercial product development.

“We have found alternative paths to connect with not only other members in our society, but also those policy influencers in Washington.”
