SFR 313: A Casual Chat With Friends

December 28, 2014

–We begin the last show of 2014 by talking about the gifts we gave and received over Christmas

–A Christmas Day tweet by Neil Tyson prompted outrage and offense from Christians. We discuss what we feel his intent was, and why we thought it was funny.

–The James Franco/Seth Rogen movie “The Interview” has been released. We go over the reactions to it, and why we haven’t seen it, despite the hype.

–Rebecca Watson announces that she is departing the Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe podcast.

–NYPD cops turn their back on Mayor De Blasio during a funeral service for recently slain officers. We are outraged by their show of disrespect, as well as their attempts to upstage such a solemn event in order to make it about their grievances with the mayor.

–ISIS takes to Twitter to ideas on how to torture a Jordanian pilot, and the answers were brutal.

–A Brandeis student makes deeply insensitive and bigoted comments on Twitter, then threatens to sue another student for slander for writing about them. We get the thoughts of eminent legal scholar Alan Dershowitz, and talk about the stifling of free speech on college campuses.

–Pastor Ryan Bell gives up his faith for a year, and decides he prefers reality to his old religion.

–SFR then descends into a free-for-all on the topic of faith, and the concept of being “good without God.” See you in 2015!
