The World of Counseling Services and Ready to Work Program at Owensboro Community and Technical College

October 14, 2022

Welcome to Start By Listening! We are excited to have you on this journey with us toward healing and transformation.  Start By Listening is a podcast about sexual harm, trauma and advocacy.  Season Three - Hodge Podge - We are taking SBL to the community and speaking with various groups and people on the traumas they encounter in their part of the community and asking how they may want their organization to address trauma survivors in the future. This season, we will be delivering exceptional conversations and creative ideas while creating a safe space for connection and thoughtful experiences. We are going beyond sexual harm and really asking, "What does trauma look like and what does this experience look like for the Western Kentucky communities we serve?" We will be talking with various community members, and delving into difficult conversations where trauma intersects our communities and people. Season Three finds us growing and changing how we do our work. Our goal is to drop 2-3 podcasts per month on Fridays and you will find most of our episodes on YouTube as well! Yes, New Beginnings has a YouTube channel.

In this episode, New Beginnings podcasters Jennifer, The Friendly Therapist, and Shelby, Victim Advocate have a very authentic conversation with an amazing group of individuals who work at Owensboro Community and Technical College in the Student Affairs Office. This group is amazing....hardworking....full of laughter and they guide their students toward success and growth. They have worked in the education system for many years and they have a great understanding regarding the traumas college students bring with them, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES), and how those traumas manifest in the college classroom and future workplace.

Barb Tipmore - Barb Tipmore has been an educator since 1988 and currently serves as a Director of Counseling Services at Owensboro Community and Technical College where she loves helping students achieve their goals. She enjoys spending time outdoors, especially with her spouse Christina.

Amy Fogle Stiff - Amy Fogle Stiff has been the Ready to Work Coordinator at OCTC for the past 21 years. Before that she worked a brief stint as an Investigator of Child Abuse for the state of Kentucky. She has a master's degree in Education specializing in Counseling from WKU. She is married to Brad Stiff and is the mother of Luke and Melody.

Karri Barnett - College Counselor - I have been working in Counseling and Accessibility Services one year and I have been with Owensboro Community & Technical College for 14 years. I love everything about working with our students and the mission of our college.
