Can anyone be an Icon?

Can anyone make one?

We don't use the term the same way any more so...What is an Icon?

I've always thought icons looked ...well...basically, creepy.

But, there is an entire history I was unaware of. There is rich symbolism in everything included. There is a world of code is colors and details used; in specific techniques and steps. Just the intention one has in the creation of them is a spiritual practice in itself. Even their creation works like a door to the liminal, let alone the beholding of them.

My misunderstanding was in thinking that Icons were expressions of religious Art.
