Spark My Muse
Eps 112: Quakerism, embodied spirituality, and Theo-poetics; guest: Callid Keefe-Perry
If you create or communicate, this is a must-hear (and re-hear) kind of episode to listen to and absorb, deep down into the bones. Today is a savory conversation with Callid Keefe-Perry.
First we journey into understanding Quakerism (The Religious Society of Friends)-- which is the religious and spiritual tradition to which he and his family adhere.
Callid's speciality is Theo-poetics and we go here next– including discussing his excellent primer on Theopoetics called "A Way to Water".
This nascent field of inquiry an d scholarship, Theopoetics, is not an alternative to theology as such, but an orientation to the *doing* of theology in ways that focus greater attention to form, genre, and the methods of theological reflection that give emphasis, style, and positive concern for the intersection of theology and spirituality. ::: These include uses of the imagination, aesthetics, and the arts, especially as it takes shape in ways that engender community-affirming dialogue that is transformative in effect and explicit about embodiment’s importance.
In this episode we also encounter the ideas of theology and embodiment concerning non-preferred bodies, ableism, gender, sexuality, disability, etc.; Deconstruction (Derrida, Jack Caputo, Peter Rollins, plus Karmen MacKendrick, Catherine Keller, Jillian Weise), Art, divine seduction, Anatheism (theism beyond theism), and so much more.
:::: IMPORTANT! ::::
This episode (released on August 16, 2017) serves as THEOPOETICS PART I ---the, very tasty and starter course. It's the foundational side to Theopoetics.
• Then, on August 30, 2017, with guest Michael Wright, THEOPOETICS PART II will arrive--- the enjoyment of Theopoetics. We will solely showcase, reflect, and discuss some specific items that are DOING Theopoetics in ways we are discussing can be possible, in PART I.
Buckle in because this is going to be a really good ride.
The extras for PART I and PART II are full of images, references, book links, website links, links to everyone mentioned, and tons of details for you to take a deeper dive and dig around for more. A TREASURE TROVE. You will want to refer to this again and again as you learn more and as you answer the call to create and communicate in meaningful and deeply satisfying ways.
