EPS 49: The Surprising "Death Class" Trend - Guest Erika Hayasaski - Spark My Muse
Many of us get anxious at the thought of growing old and dying or the thought of losing a loved one to accident, illness, and death. The reality of life and death is that we don’t much like the death part.
Hospitals, funeral homes, and many other services and agencies help us and make things easier when we lose someone we love; but they also shield us from the fact of our own mortality in ways unknown in other cultures and and eras. Might we be too isolated to what becomes of us all and working through the process of grief? Are there better ways to consider our impending death and the departure of our loved ones? Many are beginning to think so and the emergence and popularity of so-called “death cafes”, “death salons” and “death classes” speaks to the fact that people want to approach the topic of human mortality in new and more upfront ways.
Today, I joined by guest, author and professor (and former LA Times journalist) Erika Hayasaki as talk talk about this fascinating and important trend that invites us to be more courageous about our human experience.
