SHOW NOTES

Title: “How to Battle Overwhelm and Regain Focus” – EPISODE 224

THIS WEEK’S TOPIC:

Feeling a bit overwhelmed and losing focus especially around the holidays? This week I’m sharing my two favorite, incredibly easy self-management tips that can help you pull up and get back on track.

How does this relate to influence?

How we invest in ourselves is a key component for building influence. That also includes investing in those strategies that help us stay focused, but that also help us get back on track when things simply get to be too much. Even when we plan carefully, this still happens. It can be helpful to have some quick fix strategies we can use until we have a chance to develop longer term ones.

KEY TOPICS AND WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE:

TACKLING “OPEN LOOPS”: Open loops can leave you overwhelmed and can work against your ability to focus.  In the same way that your brain gets stuck on a particular refrain in a song or when you feel compelled to finish a Netflix series (even one that you don’t love because you just have to get to the end), your open tasks, to do’s, and projects can create the same type of mental loop. Without some process for corralling all of those things, your brain will operate in an often exhausting mental spiral that causes it to use more energy “looping” than actually solving the problem or dealing with the item on your list.

HOW TO QUICKLY AND EASILY CLOSE OPEN LOOPS!  This is so easy you will not believe how well it works!

BOOK: “Getting Things Done” by David Allen [Check out all my book recs on this Amazon List]

SCHEDULE A DATE WITH YOURSELF: Ideally after you have captured your “open loops.” Ideally, this is scheduled and something that will help your brain reset and regain focus.

BOOK: “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron [Check out all my book recs on this Amazon List]

Friend, these are quick fixes, but if you are anything like me, sometimes it’s the quick and easy things that you need to hit the reset button and get youself back on track. If you try these, let me know how they work for you. And, if you have other tips, please share. I’d love to hear what works for you!  You can reach via the link in the show notes which you’ll find here in Episode 224: shesaidshesaidpodcast.com .
