What happened to civility? And, how can we get it back? Shelby Scarborough, author “Civility Rules” (Episode 136)

January 25, 2021

No matter which side of the political fence you sit, there is broad agreement that something is very wrong in our society. This week’s guest believes a big part of the problem stems from how we treat each other. A veteran of the Reagan White House and CEO of Practical Protocol, LLC,  Shelby Scarborough is the author of “Civility Rules.” This well-timed guidebook is a thoughtful, well-researched articulation of key principles about how to treat and interact with others, and why it matters. Shelby makes the case that civility is more than just manners and politeness, “but rather a crucial component of a functioning democracy.”
Trust me when I say, Shelby’s perspective will make you think not only about the individual components of civility, but more importantly the role that each of us can play to create more opportunities for thoughtful debate that leads to real innovation and problem solving. Plus, her approach may also make us happier! Wouldn’t that be nice!
Friends, I’m so grateful to have you join me each week for these conversations. I like to think of them as an investment in ourselves….a few minutes when we can tune out the world and tune into something that is thoughtful, positive, and uplifting. I hope you’re finding this investment in YOU worthwhile and would love to hear from you. Send me a message and let me know what you think. What’s resonating with you, and what would you like us to spend more time on? And, if you are listening on your phone, please be sure to take a screenshot and share us to your Instagram stories. It’s a great way to connect and to help others find our great content! Until next week…. xo
