Our First Podcast: Seasteading Today with Joe Quirk, Featuring Zachary Caceres

October 31, 2014

Which is more difficult? Building a startup city on the sea? Or securing a deal for a startup city within the territory of a state you trust? I explore this topic in our inaugural episode of our new podcast series, Seasteading Today with Joe Quirk.

Soon after Richard Branson featured Executive Director of the Startup Cities Institute Zach Caceres’ article on Virgin.com, I stayed up all night talking with Zach.

Zach believes we can foster human flourishing by creating not literal islands, but legal islands – start-up cities within the states that need them the most.

Zach and I spoke back-to-back at the Voice and Exit Conference in Austin, and observers noted that although we both talked about the same principles – we proposed divergent solutions.

I sat Zach down for dinner, and we split a bottle of wine called Liberte, which has been described as “robust and independent-minded” as well as “firm, and edgy.”

Zack drank the robust and independent-minded parts, and I drank the firm and edgy parts, and I invite you to listen to Part One of our conversation.

Let me know what you think,

Joe Quirk
