Schlock’s Podcast #15 – Journalism, Athelstone, Dark Knight(s)

July 31, 2012

And the summer goes on, and on. How's it been going for you, dear readers? It's been slow over here, alas, but fear not; come rain or shine or horrors from the eldritch beyond, our podcast will still hit the internet-waves. Guaranteed, or your money back!

With July being the month of the late, great Hunter S. Thompson's death (precise date being the 18th, fact fans), it was only fair from us at Schlock Towers to discuss Dr. Gonzo. Or rather, his trade, as the team meets up with seasoned journalist Raphael Vassallo for a drink and a wee bit of chat.

We also have the regular selection of flash fiction, local prog outfit Athelstone provide us with a spot of musical distraction, and big mouthed man Marco continues his pop cultural dissection. This month - The Dark Knight Rises, amongst others. Does the Pop Culture Destroyer like the latest Bat-Film? Find out here...

As usual, do let us know what you think, and make sure to leave a review either on the comments or on iTunes!

Flash Fiction

00:41 - Cause for Concern by Pete Farrugia, read by Maxine Calleja Urry

06:09 - Twilight of the Hunter by Teodor Reljic

09:31 - The Man Who Whispered Sweet Nothings by Kris Green

Music

13:01 - Jaaz by Athelstone

Discussion

21:03 - What exactly does journalism entail? How - and why - does one even sneak into such a profession to begin with? Join Teodor, Pete, Mike and Marco as they have a chat with journalist Raphael Vassallo, as he ruminates on this proudest of trades. Or is it? Mentions of Hunter S Thompson, of course, abound.

Feature

01:11:03 - Pop Culture Destruction! - The Dark Knight Rises - Yay or Nay? Other films and comics (and cultural events) have caught our reviewer (of sorts) over this July, but one has to admit the latest Bat-Man film is the biggest draw of them all. A very recent Batman comic is also given a close look... Find out whether the opinions contained within are controversial or not, and how much Marco really likes Tails Gets Trolled. Other reviews include The Amazing Spiderman and a recent live appearance from the legendary Kronos Quartet.

Special thanks go to Chris Galea, for providing the soundscapes for the podcast.
