The Fog (1980) – SSP093
Celebrating the 43rd anniversary of it’s release today, February 1st, Karen has chosen the 1980 John Carpenter film, “The Fog” for our viewing pleasure this week. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while they enjoy a “Dark Fog Cocktail“. The recipe that Karen found on inthekitchen.net is below.
Dark Fog Cocktail Recipe
• 1 can Guinness dark beer
• 1-2 splashes raspberry liqueur
Instructions:
- Slowly pour the dark beer into a tilted glass.
- Add a splash or two of raspberry liqueur.
- Lightly swirl to mix and serve!
A Brief Synopsis: Strange things begin to occur as a tiny California coastal town prepares to commemorate its centenary. Inanimate objects spring eerily to life; Rev. Malone stumbles upon a dark secret about the town’s founding; radio announcer Stevie witnesses a mystical fire; and hitchhiker Elizabeth discovers the mutilated corpse of a fisherman. Then a mysterious iridescent fog descends upon the village, and more people start to die.
Some of the topics discussed and highlights of this episode include:
- Why is it so foggy in northern California? Karen fills us in.
- Why are boats and other vehicles referred to using feminine names and pronouns?
- Karen tells us about the boat referred to as “trollers”.
- Greg makes yet another Iron Maiden reference.
- Just how much is a “dash” anyway?
- We have a reference to Walpurgisnacht.
- When is the “Witching Hour”?
Our rating of the film:
This movie was OK. It took us 3 cocktails to get through it.
