The Pit and the Pendulum (1961) – SSP091
Celebrating what would have been Edgar Allen Poe’s 214th birthday on January 19th, Karen has chosen the 1961 film “The Pit and the Pendulum” starring Vincent Price, for our viewing pleasure this week. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while enjoying an “Absolut Fear Cocktail“. Karen found the recipe below on cocktailbuilder.com.

• 1 1/2 oz SoBe No Fear energy drink (or other energy drink)
Instructions:

- Then fill the rest of the glass with SoBe No Fear energy drink.
A Brief Synopsis: Elizabeth Barnard Medina has died in the prime of life, and her brother, Francis, wants to know why. Elizabeth’s husband, Nicholas, and her doctor offer differing explanations, but when Francis learns that Nicholas’ mother may have been buried alive, he begins to wonder if his sister met the same fate. And when he comes to believe that Elizabeth’s spirit wanders about Nicholas’ castle, Francis investigates — and is stunned by what he finds.
Some of the topics discussed and highlights of this episode include:
- Greg finds similarities between this Richard Matheson screenplay and his novel “Hell House”.

- We also learn a little bit from Karen about the Spanish Inquisition.
- Greg tells us all about the differences between harpsichords and pianos.

Our rating of the film:
This movie was pretty good. It only took us 2 cocktails to get through it.
