103: Ditch the diet with Isabel Foxen Duke
Life is an ultimate experience which is made up of many different things and consist of many different areas. There are immeasurable amount of things that we could do in our life, virtually unlimited. Yet, our energy is limited. We only have so much energy and time in our life to actually do the things that matters and the things that really makes us happy. Therefore, putting too much attention or focus on just one area of our life means we are missing out the other fun parts. Not a good way to live our life. Not at all.
The major issue faced by modern women today is the diet culture, where a women is obsessed with the specific type of food she eats, which then affects the way she thinks about her own body image. This excessive obsession with dieting is mentally tiring, the only thing she thinks about whole day is how certain food will make her look “unacceptable to society”. In short, it is an impractical expectation that people placed on themselves, and we really need to break out of that fallacy.
I’m really excited to have Isabel Foxen Duke with me today as our guest. She runs an online educational program for women who are struggling with issues relating to dieting and eating. In another words, she helps women to stop feeling crazy around food.
In this episode, Isabel talks about her views on the whole diet culture, including:
* How her decision to embrace her body the way it is inspires her to help others to achieve the same
* Why she disagrees with the diet culture and her message to all women who are struggling with their diet
* She explains the common mentality among the women today, which she calls an obsessive thinking of food and dieting
* How these mentality distracts people from the more important things in life
* Her own experience of putting too much attention to what she is “expected” to eat, and how it has impacted her life
* How many other door of opportunities in life have opened up when she put the diet obsession behind her, allowing her to explore her interests in other areas
