Say Yes Podcast
58: Moving out of NYC with Jessica Mastroianni
Have you ever have this moment in your life, where you need to tell yourself to say “Yes” to a life-changing decision? Well, Jessica Mastroianni has. Her decision was moving out of NYC, a place she has been staying for the past ten years. In today’s podcast, we explore the reasons behind her decision and the implications that follow.
Her reasons on why she wanted to leave NYC and go back to Upstate, New York. Firstly, she was tired with the busy city life and she realized that the life in the city is no longer what she wanted. Instead, she wanted to settle down in life, have a relationship and maybe start a family. Secondly, she talks about how the heavy financial burden from her rental and student loan left her no choice but to leave.
But making this decision is not without resistance. Other than her own inner struggle, she also has to deal with the fact that her moving out of the apartment will leave her roommate homeless as well.
Later on, Jessica tells her story after moving out of NYC. She initially could not find a job near her place and had to travel for hours to work. Fortunately, her persistence paid off when she finally found a job much nearer to her place, after two years.
Finally, Jessica shares her current life, one she definitely thinks is a better one compared to the one she had back in NYC. She’s now able to spend more time with her little sister and also able to stay closer to her grandmother in order to take care of her. More importantly, she has found her soul mate, and settled down in a way she has always wanted few years back.
Making a life-changing decision can be hard, really hard. We all worried that things might go worse, and we will eventually regret our decision. Yet life is so unpredictable that if you keep yourself positive, your life will too. So don’t give up just yet, be persistent, and keep going, just like what Jessica have said: “Just force yourself to keep going, and eventually it will work out, and it did.”
