E3: Dan Blackford on surviving a violent encounter with less than lethal and lethal optoins

September 30, 2015

In this episode we sit down with Dan Blackford. He’s going to share with use the tips, tricks, and techniques for surviving a violent encounter with less than lethal and lethal options. Plus, he’ll teach us how to stay out of the situations to begin with.
About our guest:
Our guest today is Dan Blackford. He’s a retired law enforcement officer who spent 20 years working for the government. Eleven of those years were with the Secret Service. During his time with the Secret Service he guarded a president and was a tactical firearms instructor.
His last nine years of service was with the Inspector General’s office doing internal affairs.
Dan has enough firearms and personal protection certifications from the Federal Government and state of Texas to wallpaper a good size room.
So when it comes to your safety and security. He might know a think or two.
We discuss the following questions:
Today we’re discussing how to protect against home invasions and what to do if it happens.
* What are some of the primary things people do that open them up to being a victim of an attack or home invasion?
* What can they do to counteract these things?
* What deterrents can be put in place in and around a person’s home to help make it a hard target for home invaders?
* Every once in a while I hear the news media trot in someone who says, “Just comply with all the demands and don’t fight back against an attacker.” Admittedly this is going to be a loaded question—pun intended. So in your expert opinion, good idea or bad idea?
* A lot of your background is in firearms training. [IF MEMORY SERVES ME CORRECTLY, YOU WERE A SECRET SERVICE FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR TOO?] What advice would you give anyone who is new to guns and is considering one for the first time for home defense?
* It’s probably a good time to clear up some bad firearms related advice that was given by someone that didn’t seem to know much about their deployment in a potentially violent encounter. Why is it a bad idea to simply shoot a shot gun up in the air to scare off home invaders?
* There’s a lot of “advice” on firearms on the internet and on TV. What are the best ways for people to decide for themselves if the information they’re being given is by someone that really knows what they’re talking about?
* What are some of the products on the market or techniques you’ve seen that can actually help deter home invasions?
Plus, Dan shares his highest priority and important tips for keeping people and their families safe and secure.
