We managed our biggest divide this week, as Beauty and the Beast somehow pulled us in wildly different directions.

It was never going to change how many people hit this one in theaters, but Shane just wasn’t won over. Though we both appreciated Emma Watson in the role, I found a lot more to like about the effort. We did agree that the “Be Our Guest” scene was something of a misfire, going full Wonka in the middle of a film where that didn’t fit at all.

Kong: Skull Island, on the other hand, didn’t impress either of us. There’s nothing with a good monster movie, though I’m not sure that it’s a genre that needs to continue, but this one seemed to have little idea what it was doing. At times, it felt as though 20-minute chunks were directed by different people who were all in the dark about what else was being filmed.
