Why Don’t Kids Get COVID Like Adults?

The fact that children seem less likely to get and spread COVID than adults remains one of the few silver linings — if you can call it that — of the pandemic. We spoke with Columbia University immunologist — and the author of a recent, major study examining this very question — Donna Farber about why. Farber tells us that young immune systems are very different from old ones, and that the key lies in that early dynamism. Plus, why quarantine may be taking a toll on children by damaging their future prospect of stronger immune systems.
