Developing a vaccine is only the first step. The next?  Distribution. For vaccines, the cold chain — the system of refrigerated transport and maintenance that connects big pharma with individual vaccine users — is essential. We spoke with Toby Peters, professor in the cold economy at the University of Birmingham, about the hurdles any COVID vaccine will face as it gets distributed and why the cold economy is the invisible, essential prop for so much of modern life.
