Armenia, Azerbaijan, and COVID-19

October 13, 2020

Our new episode features Ambassador Carey Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh is an expert on conflict with deep background in the Near East – he now serves as a professor at the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce at the University of Kentucky and is currently chairman of International Alert, a London-based peacebuilding organization. Under Presidents Clinton and Bush, Cavanaugh spearheaded or helped advance peace efforts involving Armenia and Azerbaijan (as well as Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Tajikistan, and Turkey). We spoke with him about the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and what is at stake there. One important takeaway: this local conflict could spread.
