FOMO is fear of missing out. While FOMO has always been part of SEO because of constantly changing algorithms, 2023 has presented the highest dosage of FOMO in recent memory. The primary culprit for this trend is the onset of AI technology, particularly concerning the mass production of website content.


Some roofing companies feel like they're missing out by NOT mass-producing AI-generated content for their website. But unfortunately, search engines have already penalized websites engaging in such mass production. 


A few listeners have pushed back by citing Google's recent guidelines where they leave room for using AI content when it serves the user. But, of course, this is semantics because most AI content is inherently created to take shortcuts. Therefore, unless the website makes AI content uniquely, it will violate the spirit of search engine guidelines.


Some SEO agencies attempt to disguise AI-generated content to make it appear human-generated. However, entering a rat race that requires your process to continuously trick search engines is a race you will undoubtedly lose over time.


Although AI-powered techniques are at the forefront of roofing SEO FOMO in 2023, it is not the only example. Unfortunately, roofers are still sold BS pitches about needing citations in low-quality directories or requiring awful WordPress plugins that bog down your entire website speed.
