In late March of 1974 the Betz family was dealing with an afternoon brush fire on their wooded, 88 acre, Fort George Island estate at the north-east corner of Florida.


Among the ashes 20 year-old son Terry Betz found a most out of place object. There, amid the still-smoking grass, was a gleaming metallic sphere the size of a bowling ball, unmarked and cool to the touch.


He brought it home as a curiosity where soon it started to vibrate, roll around the house on it’s own, display intelligent control, follow people, and cause the family dog to cower.
