We have to shift from “ambition” to “meaning.” We merely distract ourselves with “ambition.” The 12-step program tells us that our essential problem is not substance abuse, but that we allow our egos to run our lives. Those who live by the demands of the ego have several mistaken beliefs. First, they judge their worth by the amount of stuff they have; second, they believe they are what they do; third, their self-esteem is based on what others think of them. We have to stop allowing the ego to control us and live a life that appeals to who we really are. We have to have the right kind of ambition to meaningful sober life. What comes first to mind, what do you want to say to the new person in recovery about ambition? What is good ambition? What is bad ambition? How do you know the difference? What is grandiosity to you? How is this related to ambition? What is humility to you? How can humility help to have proper ambition? How can your higher power help with proper ambition? Bill Wilson write in “As Bill See it”, True ambition is the profound desire to live usefully and walk humbly under the grace of God. Thoughts on this quote? How does envy play a part in disordered ambition? How can the program help? What part of the program helps you with proper ambition What steps? What prayers? What part of the fellowship? Slogans? How are you ambitious in your recovery? What part of your recovery are you proud of? How did you achieve that goal? ______________________________________________________ We asked our listeners about this topic.
