Acceptance gives you the strength to pry back the choking fingers of alcoholism away from your throat and give your lungs access to the glorious and life-giving air of sobriety. I did an open talk for Anne-Marie’s home group a couple of Fridays ago and they gave this A coffee cup with the Acceptance cup Guess they knew something.. Going to you first, ????,  What are your first thoughts on this topic? What does acceptance mean to you? Here is what my coffee mug says... Page 417 of the big book: Acceptance  "And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today.  When I am disturbed,  It is because I find some person, place, thing, situation --  Some fact of my life -- unacceptable to me,  And I can find no serenity until I accept  That person, place, thing, or situation  As being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment.  Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake.  Until I could accept my alcoholism, I could not stay sober;  Unless I accept life completely on life's terms,  I cannot be happy.  I need to concentrate not so much  On what needs to be changed in the world  As on what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes."  When did you first read the Acceptance statement? What was your reaction to it? When you were new,  what kinds of loss and disappointments were you experiencing? How did the spiritual tool of Acceptance help? In early sobriety, did you try to force certain outcomes were there some consequences you were trying to avoid? Did you get the outcome you desired? In early sobriety, did you struggle against reality?   How does acceptance and reality relate? What is the serenity prayer? How does the acceptance statement and the serenity prayer relate? What is your experience with the prayer? ______________________________________________________ We asked our listeners about this topic.
