Episode 168: Made and Built to Last (International Day for Monuments and Sites)
This episode is going to be epic!
Well, in terms of sites and buildings, because we’re celebrating International Day for Monuments and Sites, also known as World Heritage Day. This day, developed by the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), is to honor and raise awareness of the heritage of natural and man-made monuments and sites. It also promoted the preservation and conservations of these important places due to their significance with local and regional heritage. Some examples of such monuments and sites include the Parthenon in Greece, the Shrines and Temples of Nikko in Japan, and the Statue of Liberty in the United States.
This week, we’re listening to tracks from video games that have recreations and inspirations of certain World Heritage Sites: learning to be an assassin during the Renaissance, liberating the island of Tsushima, and travelling west to revive the Earth. We’ve also got covers and remixes with these original tracks.
Enjoy these tracks as you ponder on the importance and importance of these monuments and sites in relation to heritage.
