Raising Christian Kids

Which is Better, DestinyLand or DisneyLand?

August 12, 2020

How can you raise your kids to focus their desires on an eternal “Destiny Land” when the world tends to focus on “Disney Land”?

Ask your children, “Can you tell me about (whatever their favorite Disney character is)? Why is this character your favorite?” Then ask them to tell you about their favorite biblical characters, “What do you know about your favorite biblical character, and why do you like them?” This will tell you a lot about what is truly influencing their young minds.
It may seem harmless. After all, it’s Magic Kingdom; but listen to the many examples of how Magic Kingdom is no longer as wholesome as it once was in this episode.
The producers and writers of the shows and stories discussed in this episode have the right to choose to promote whatever agenda they want to promote. However, as Christians, we can choose and expose our children to shows, programs, movies, toys, clothes, and books that reflect godly morals!
We are to teach our children to love everyone, but not to act or think like everyone. They are to take every thought captive to Christ and model the characteristics of Jesus and adhere to biblical principles.
One favorite fairy tale is “Snow White.” How can this story be used as a tool to teach children about Jesus or the concept of the bride of Christ?
Yes, let’s dress our children up as the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, who recuses His bride. Instead of panting Disney characters on your children’s bedroom walls, paint a picture of the heavenly castle in heaven, with Jesus in the center and all the children and animals around him – Paint a heavenly picture – that will be a picture they will recall in their mind’s eye as they grow up.
Yes, Destiny Land is better than Disney Land. Only one lasts for eternity!
