Brooklyn-based artists Nia & Ness are more than just a duo of performers. Their experiences as a black lesbian couple navigating life’s trials are the basis of their work, a mix of spoken word poetry and dance that brings to life the joys and struggles of their intertwined experience.
Currently, the duo is working on their first full-length performance, titled Run which debuts later this summer.
Nia & Ness joined us via phone ahead of Brooklyn Pride 2017 to discuss their work, what inspires them, and what they think of creating their art in the age of President Trump.
