Professor Andy Freed discusses asteroid impacts and explains the heat inside the moon.

March 09, 2020

Andy Freed from the Department of Earth Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences talks about asteroid impacts and craters on the moon and the Earth. He uses finite element modeling for computer modeling to look at the formation and evolution of craters. Andy explains that there is still heat in the core of the Moon and it can take millions of years for planetary bodies to cool down. He applied his expertise in finite element modeling of rockets to geophysics and now to planetary science.
