In order to legally drive a big rig in interstate commerce, truckers are required to have a physical examination from a qualified medical examiner. If they pass, they get a Medical Examiners Certificate that’s good for up to two years. However, nearly half of the nation’s truck drivers are certified for less than one year, resulting in problems for them as well as truck fleets.
