The African American vote has become critical in presidential elections, especially in the race for the Democratic nomination. However, there are key moments in the history of the African American vote that catapulted it into such prominence.

On this week’s episode of Poll Hub, Steve Kornacki (@stevekornacki), National Political Correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC and author of The Red and the Blue, joins the discussion. Kornacki dives into a newly released research project conducted by NBC News.  Journey to power: The history of black voters, 1976 to 2020. This record is the first that chronicles the black vote for each competitive Democratic primary campaign since 1976.
