School of Podcasting - Plan, Launch, Grow and Monetize Your Podcast

Saving Money on Podcast Hosting, Evaluating Your Podcast, Lots of Questions Answered

February 25, 2013

Today I talk about how I helped Robert Chazz Chute avoid doubling the cost of his podcast hosting when he decided to start a second podcast. You can have website hosting with the ability to add on domains (its an extra 80 cents).  If you don’t have a website yet be sure to contact me as I can install wordpress for you, add the plugins for podcasting, and give you a free month at the School of Podcasting. Send me an email with “quick start” in the subject line.

Dave Mentioned in the New Book Six Seconds, The UnAuthorized Guide to How to Build Your Business with the Vine App by Robert Chazz Chute. Look for it on the chapter on Citizen Journalism. Thanks  Robert!

Questions About Starting a Podcast

Thanks to Lou Mongello of the WDW Radio podcast for sending me Jan Mills who had a bunch of questions about starting a podcast. In this episode I talk about:

1. How to Mix Your podcast

2. What kind of podcast microphone is the best?

3. Using background music in your podcast.

4. Legal use of music in your podcast

5. Why you need to have a Web Hosting Company, and a Media Hosting Company

6. How to Record Skype calls.

7. Copy writing your podcast

8. Podcast Audio Editing Software ( I recommend Sony Acid Music Studio

You can hear me interview Lou on the Power of Podcasting

Reviewing Your Podcast

While we all get caught up in making great content, it’s never a bad idea to occasionally sit down, and try to listen to your podcast through the ears of your listeners. As a teacher, I know the approach to creating training classes using the A.D.D.I.E. approach. It stands for:

Analyze

Design

Development

Implementation

Evaluation

Be sure to listen to your podcast where you audience listens (or where you listen). I don’t listen to podcasts in the area I create them (A quiet office). Consequently, much of then noise that I would obsess over I don’t as I know that when I listen to them under “normal” (noisy) situations, I wouldn’t hear half the noise that I am obsessing over.

What is Good Content

A person asks, “How do I grow my audience.” Dave talks about how step one is creating WOW content. He then defines what WOW content is (when you sit in your car to hear the end of a segment instead of going into the house, you’re listening to WOW content).
