We didn’t see that one coming, so we want you to know we’re here for you. With the announcement of Google Reader shutting down July 1, we have received requests by both podcasters and app developers asking whether our MyCast subscription system and API will fill the void. The answer is yes.
In the following weeks, we will be making our podcast directory API public for app developers to use in their applications to manage podcast subscriptions. All the app developer needs to do is to agree to some very simple terms and conditions and register the application with us.
We’re encouraging podcasters or consumers using a podcasting app that now uses Google Reader to manage podcast subscriptions to reach out to application’s developers and let them know about our API. Yup, we’re shocked and a little dismayed by the announcement that Google is doing away with Reader, but lamenting the choice isn’t going to do us any good and it certainly isn’t going to help you, and that’s what we’re here to do.
If you are a software or device developer looking for an API for your podcasting application, please contact us for details. Include the name and website URL to your application in the contact form (http://www.blubrry.com/contact.php). The Blubrry API will ensure nobody is cut off or left out; that this doesn’t happen to you again.
