The primary depiction of God in the Gospels is that of a loving Father. In this session we looked at Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son, and how it portrays the heart of the Father towards His children. We learned that the Father is forgiving, forgetting the sins of those who come to Him in genuine repentance. We also learned that the Father is faithful, meeting His children’s physical needs as well as their spiritual ones. Finally, we were reminded that the Father is for us; not acting against His children but bringing all things together for the good of those who love Him and who are called to His purposes(Romans 8:28). We have a heavenly Father who loves us; a truth that enables us to live in confidence that when we cannot understand His mind, we can always trust His heart.
