NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day
2023 June 01 - Recycling Cassiopeia A
In today's image, we see the supernova remnant known as Cassiopeia A. This would have been seen to explode from Earth back in the later 1600. However, extensive obscuration kept astronomers from viewing it as a prominent supernova. Here we see it in a combination of visible light and x-rays.
