2023 May 24 - Observatory Aligned with Moon Occulting Jupiter

May 24, 2023

In today's image, we see Lick Observatory, where the moon Amalthea was discovered visually (just by looking through the telescope, not using any photographic means.) This was the last moon in the solar system to be detected without the aid of photography. We also see our Moon as it has just moved from in front of Jupiter as the occultation which occurred earlier this month ended.
