2023 March 27 - Aurora Over Arctic Henge

March 27, 2023

In today's image, we see the aurora and constellation in the sky over the Arctic Henge in Iceland. The aurora are caused by charged particles from the Sun which follow along Earth's magnetic field toward the north and south magnetic poles. When these particles strike atoms in Earth's atmosphere, they cause it to glow, giving us the colors of the aurora.
