In today's image, we see the asteroid known as Dimorphos just a few seconds before the DART craft impacted into its surface. This was an experiment to see how an asteroid orbit could be changed by an impact as a potential planetary defense measure in the future. It was found that the orbit of Dimorphos was decreased by about half of an hour from its original 12 hour orbit.
