2023 February 18 - Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 1365 from Webb

February 18, 2023

In today's image, we see NGC 1365 which is an example of a barred spiral galaxy like our own Milky Way. This is imaged from the James Webb Space Telescope which gives us a view of it in the infrared part of the spectrum. The longer wavelength IR light is better able to penetrate through dust in the galaxy giving us a better look into and a better understanding of these galaxies.
