2023 January 15 - M1: The Crab Nebula from Hubble

January 15, 2023

In today's image, we see the Crab Nebula, a supernova remnant left behind from the explosion of a massive star which was observed on Earth back in 1054. Many of the elements heavier that hydrogen and helium are produced in stars and during the explosion itself and expelled out into space to become the seed material for new stars. Many element in our bodies were formed in explosions just like this billions of years ago.
