2022 December 14 - Lunar Dust and Duct Tape

December 14, 2022

In today's image, we see the lunar rover from the Apollo 17 mission from December 1972 - the last time humans landed on our Moon. The dust is the lunar soil or regolith which has been finely powdered by billions of years of impacts by micrometeorites. The duct tape refers to the repairs that had to be made to the damaged rover fender to keep the soil from being kicked up as the rover moved over the lunar surface.
