2024 March 19 - A Picturesque Equinox Sunset

March 19, 2024

In today's image, we see the Sun setting at the end of a road. This road runs roughly east-west so the Sun will appear to rise and set at the end of the road on the two equinoxes that occur each year. For this in the Northern Hemisphere, today is the Vernal Equinox or the first day of spring. On this day, the Sun crosses the celestial equator moving into the northern part of the sky. It is also the day where day and night will be of equal length - 12 hours each.
