NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day
2023 October 12 - Mu Cephei
In today's image, we see the star known as Mu Cephei. This is a red supergiant star which, if placed at the location of our Sun, would extend out past the planet Jupiter in our solar system. The star is n the later stages of its life and will eventually end its life in a supernova explosion.
