NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day
2023 August 19 - Ringed Ice Giant Neptune
In today's image, we see the planet Neptune as imaged by the James Webb Space Telescope. It appears faint because there is a good amount go methane in its atmosphere which is very good at absorbing the infrared light that the Webb Space telescope can observe in. The bright object above and to the left of Neptune is its large moon, Triton.
