Trevor Herd and Angelo Pisano are two guys with Midwest roots and Pacific Northwest influence. The two co-owners of Steel Cactus Brewing grew up in Michigan and had their journeys take them to Oregon & Washington before ending up here in the desert Southwest.

Steel Cactus Brewing opened in December in Gilbert thanks to careful navigation through the pandemic years, Trevor’s handiwork in building the bar and Angelo’s expertise in the brewing process. Both men have traveled the world to sample beer and know what they enjoy, so they brew the styles near and dear to them, often named after cherished memories from their upbringing in Michigan.

Styles range from the default flagship Blue Boy Ale (reminiscent of a Bud Light) to Quarton Midwest IPA (think Bell’s Two-Hearted Ale). On the wild side, try the Berry Parfait fruited sour, part of Angelo’s sour series of beers.

The brewery taproom is small, but friendly as you’d expect from a couple of Midwest guys. Herd and Pisano already plan to renovate the building to increase customer capacity and allow for food trucks. It’s open from 3-8pm most days and might change based on sporting events.
