I’ve been reading a book by Michael Michalowicz called Clockwork. (He is also the author of Profit First, a book that I thoroughly loved.) In Clockwork, Mike Michalowicz compared a company to a beehive. In a beehive, each bee’s job is its primary role plus protecting the queen bee role.
