E165 | While Lebanon is home to a rich base of historical sources, the nature of public institutions and the impacts of the long civil war have resulted in a situation wherein archival documents are decentralized and spread across many private institutions. In this episode, we interview the directors of a new archival collection in Lebanon at Université Saint-Esprit de Kaslik (USEK), which is fast becoming a repository of collections of documents, registers, and personal papers from throughout Lebanon.

Joseph Moukarzel is Director of the Phoenix Center for Lebanese Studies at USEK. He holds a PhD in History from Université de la Sorbonne - Paris IV.
Elie Elias is communications director at the Phoenix Center and a doctoral candidate at USEK.
Graham Pitts is a doctoral candidate at Georgetown University researching the environmental history of the Middle East and in particular modern Lebanon.
Chris Gratien is a doctoral candidate at Georgetown University researching the social and environmental history of the Ottoman Empire and the modern Middle East.
