Inside the Tangier Legation | Ayla Amon

tajine E06 | Ayla Amon joins the podcast this week to discuss her work at the Tangier American Legation Institute for Moroccan Studies (TALIM) and the Tangier American Legation Museum. As a specialist in art history and preservation, Ayla talks about her experience cataloging and refurbishing the incredible collections at TALIM and its adjoining museum. The Legation was originally a gift of the Moroccan Sultan to the U.S. Government in 1821 and served as the U.S. embassy for 140 years. It was also the first National Historic Site located in a foreign country. Today it houses a museum and a research library, and it is a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers and an affiliate research center of the American Institute for Maghrib Studies.

Ayla Amon currently works in the Islamic Art Department of The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. She was awarded a Museum Management Scholarship through the U.S. Embassy in Rabat. She is an M.A. Candidate in Museum Studies at The George Washington University.
